Massage

Work out the kinks with massage therapy

Massage is the physical manipulation of one's soft body tissues with pressure. The word itself is French in origin and means "friction of kneading." There are many forms of massage including unstructured, structured, stationary, moving and therapeutic just to name the most basic types. Massage can have clinical benefits such as easier movement and increased emotional well being. The benefits of human touch have been well documented in clinical research.

Uses of Massage Therapy

Massage therapy has been in use to ease stress for a long time. Almost all cultures have employed a version of massage therapy in some shape or form in their history. It was most popular in Far Eastern cultures, and some of the most enjoyable massage techniques come from their ideas. Massage therapists often attend a technical school where they learn massage techniques in an intensive manner. If a therapist wants to specialize in a certain form, then it may take a longer amount of time to train for that type of therapy.

Massage techniques are wide and varied, and include things like deep tissue massage, which some people prefer over other types. Bowen therapy uses a rolling motion to reduce tension, but does not use deep tissue massage as that form can be uncomfortable for some people and they may be sore afterward. There are many methods (and states of dress or undress) that can be employed with therapeutic massage. One can be seated fully clothed in a chair and get a back and neck massage or unclothed and covered with towels or sheets on a massage table. Even pregnant woman can enjoy a special massage safe for her during that time in her life, with a cut out on the table for her tummy so she can get what would certainly be a much-appreciated back massage.

There are many varieties of massage and it might take you a few massages to find the massage therapist that works best for you. Even if it takes you a bit to find one, it is sure to be a wonderful and relaxing journey.
